We are getting married on September 6, 2009 in Lake Placid, NY. We hope you will join us!
We have chosen the Sunday of Labor Day weekend hoping that this will make it easier for you to travel to Lake Placid and spend enough time there to see the sights and enjoy the town. Because that weekend tends to be a busy one in Lake Placid, you may want to make your travel plans soon. This website contains some basic information to help you plan your trip. Of course, we are also always available to answer any questions you have.
Before we get to the logistics, however, we want to explain why we chose this particular place for our wedding.
Karen's grandmother, great-aunt, and great-grandparents first visited Lake Placid in 1939 shortly before the family permanently relocated from Krakow, Poland, to New York. They fell in love with Lake Placid and began visiting there each summer. Around 1950, the family bought the house at 24 Interlaken Avenue. Although the house was later sold to a different family, an archway in front of the house still says "Villa Clara"¦Clara was Karen's great-grandmother and the person for whom she is named. Today, Karen's cousins have a house in Lake Placid, which has been the site of many festive family gatherings.
Lake Placid also has special meaning to us as a couple. Lake Placid has been our refuge whenever we have been able to take time off from work. And when we first started dating, we watched the winter Olympics together. Lake Placid has twice played host to the winter Olympics and on our trips there, we have visited the top of the ski jumps, taken an actual bobsled run, and watched a hockey game at the site of the 1980 "Miracle on Ice." And Lake Placid is where Brian proposed¦in what we have come to refer to as the second Miracle on Ice.
We have already introduced Brian's parents to Lake Placid¦they particularly enjoyed hiking in the nearby mountains and taking walks around Mirror Lake. We are looking forward to being there next September with both of our families, and all of you.
Love, Karen and Brian
